Kol Nidrei Appeal 5784
On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Chazal give us the formula for a favorable judgment:
"ותשובה, ותפילה, וצדקה מעבירין את רוע הגזרה"
“Repentance, Prayers, and Charity remove the evil of the decree”
Teshuvah and Tefillah are completely in our hands. The Shul, however, is happy to help with the third ingredient – Tzedakah. The Bnai Yeshurun Kol Nidrei Committee respectfully requests that you respond generously to the Kol Nidrei Appeal and make Bnai Yeshurun a primary Tzedakah beneficiary this time of the year.
The Shulchan Aruch (Yoreh Deah 249:16) writes that the mitzvah of supporting a community Shul is a priority in the Tzedakah hierarchy and is only exceeded by the mitzvot of facilitating the study of Torah and tending to the medical needs of the poor.
As you know, Shul expenses increase with inflation, so your support is needed more than ever. In particular over the past few years, maintaining Bnai Yeshurun as a makom Tefillah in a way that ensures that all our members can feel comfortable, adds to those expenses as well. In recent years, less than 60% of the membership has responded to the appeal. We need to do a lot better. We ask that everyone participate to the best of his or her ability. If you have not participated in the past, please make a fresh start and contribute generously this year. If you have participated in the past, please consider increasing your pledge above and beyond what you gave last year. Contributors will be recognized by category, unless requested otherwise.
Kol Nidrei Appeal contributions are used specifically for CBY operating expenses throughout the year. The Kol Nidrei Appeal is the only formal appeal during the year whose purpose is to ensure that the Shul is operating smoothly.
A successful appeal allows Bnai Yeshurun to function in an appropriate manner and ensures that we can feel proud of our Beit Knesset each and every time we enter the building.
The following categories recognize the various levels of contribution. These categories are:
